“Fashion
is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in
the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the
way we live, what is happening.” CoCo Chanel
Kathy
was told at an early age by her parents that being involved
in art or fashion design would not lead to any financial accomplishments.
She listened and took a different path for a while….Kathy
was a teacher for 15 years in Seattle, Thailand and the Denver
area. Later, after her children were raised, she decided to
get as much experience as possible in Fashion and landed a
job at Nordstrom in Personal Shopping, then Jewelry and finally
in Visual Merchandising. Most recent, she started and was
Executive Director of a nonprofit called Dress for Success
Denver. Helping women move from poverty to self-sufficiency.
“I
have always loved fashion and have an eye for putting things
together no matter what the size of the woman. I love being
involved with designers in Denver; they are a very diverse
group of people that have talent that has yet to make headlines.
That is where I come in. I believe I can help them find their
worth and connect them to our community and influential people
by helping them see their vision.”
I
am very excited to be a part of Fashion Denver and participate
in the changing times of Art and Design. Being a part of this
wonderful organization, started by Brandi Shigley will give
me an avenue of creativity. I also have been volunteering
my time at The Museum of Contemporary Art and The Denver Film
Society to enrich my life to the fullest.
