Madame Q Designs
Jacqueline Qualtieri
How
would you describe the style of your designs?
Hmm.. I guess I would describe my designs as modern twists
off of classic styles. Like the jumpsuit, but with a crazy
pattern or textured fabric you wouldn't normally use with
that silhouette.
Where
do you find your inspiration?
From
everything! Everything around me is an inspiration. Lately
it's mostly been different eras. The summer show I did
was completely 70's inspired and the last show I had at
the Taste of Colorado all the dresses were constructed
from vintage sheets, Star Wars from '77, Smurfs circa
1980, and so on.
What
materials do you usually work with?
Cotton
linens, silks, woven fabrics. I recently created a line
with an organic bamboo spandex which was definitely the
easiest to work with and one of the more popular collections
among clients. And it feels oh-so-soft on your skin, mmm...
What
is the story behind the name of your line?
I
wanted to somehow incorporate the Q of my name into the
name of my line and Madame Q just felt so right :)
What
is the first piece you ever made?
The
first piece I ever made was one of the hardest bag patterns
from Amy Butler. It was a weekender bag complete with
piping, a very long zipper, and many pockets. It took
me a good while to finish it but it was well worth it
and I made it especially for my sister who had just moved
away from home so the sentimental value "upped the
anty," if you will.
If
you could dress anyone in the world, who would it be?
I
love these questions! If I'm just dreaming I would say
Marilyn Monroe. She was the most fascinating woman, she
knew what she wanted and she always got it. But for the
living stars, I would love to dress Sarah Jessica Parker.
She's made from a different mold and she absolutely oozes
class.
