Natalee Moldenhauer was born in the small town of Laurinburg, NC. where she lived with her younger sister, mother and grandparents until age 8. During that time, she learned to play piano and took floral design classes with her grandmother. She was in many school plays and recitals and her grandmother had both her and her sister elegantly dressed in custom handmade dresses and bonnets for special occasions and holidays.

Natalee then moved to Colorado where she lived with her father and stepmother. Before graduating from high school in 1980 she began working at a bridal and millinery boutique in north Cherry Creek by the name of Allyns, where they made custom bridal veils and hats and sold fine fabrics and laces from around the world. It was there that she realized her dream of being a millinery designer.

In 1983, she began designing custom bridal millinery for Montaldos, Joslins and JCPenney's bridal departments in Colorado and North Carolina. She then decided to design more than bridal millinery and began designing millinery for all occasions. In 2007, Natalee began her "Feel Beautiful" campaign, featuring "Sparkle Plenty". As everyone knows, this was the name of a little girl in the comic strip, "Dick Tracy", and she was named this for her beauty. When Natalee was born, her father also gave her this nickname, so in honor of her father, this is what she named her line.
