Lily: Kali & Vicky Schafer
We
have both been artists all of our lives, always creating things
whenever and wherever the inspiration struck us. Tee Shirts
are something we had discussed in passing for a long time,
about 8 months ago we got serious about it and started our
line.
Our style is casual enough for street wear but formal enough
to wear to the office with a nice pencil skirt. We create
hand drawn designs and are printing limited edition apparel.
Most of my inspraition is taken from Art Nouveau. I find the
symmetry and lines both modern and classic. I also am obsessed
with drips, spray paint and anything "Urban". Thats
how we came up with our name Urban Lily, Art Nouveau was refered
to as "lily style" because of the soft curves. The
word Urban came from my drip obsession, which come to think
of, besides our logo, has yet to be utilized on our prints...
perhaps a new design idea!....
The medium of our choice is sweat shop free apparel screen
printed by a local independent. The designs are first created
with a pencil and usually a sharpie or two (different widths
of corse). In the future we look forward to expanding our
medium by eventually embellishing our Tees with fabrics, beads,
etc..
The Poppy tee was our first design, and for now seems to be
one of the favorites and our best seller. Each new time we
print I feel we are getting more and more creative and a learning
what can really be done.
If we could dress anyone in the world it would have to be
a royal 18th century woman who was willing to put on tee shirt
over her corset!! Actresses, Penelope Cruze or Nicole Kidman
(or any modern woman who felt the need to dress creative,
unique, and professional!)
